Free Water-Wise Landscaping Workshops!

Water-wise landscaping saves water & creates a less maintenance intensive landscape for you to maintain. Interested? The Center for Resource Conservation [CRC] is offering many free workshops on the topic in the near future. Here is a list of what the upcoming workshops:

Ghosts of the Grasslands: Inspire a Hike and a Boulder Philharmonic Performance

Screen Shot 2014-03-17 at 11.01.59 AMOn March 22, 2014 Open Space & Mountain Parks as well as the Boulder Philharmonic present their own interpretations of Ghosts of the Grasslands. Together they bring you the opportunity to hike & see a performance perfectly paired together! 

The Hike: Prepare for the Boulder Philharmonic concert with an easy morning hike to learn about the plants and animals of our native grasslands, and how they have changed since the first pioneers arrived in Boulder.  Naturalist Dave Sutherland will take you to a prairie dog town just south of Boulder to observe day-to-day life, and see how prairie dogs are an important part of the grassland ecosystem. Dress for the weather: it might be cool and windy. Meet at Marshall Mesa Trailhead, near the junction of Highway 93 and Eldorado Springs Drive. 9:30 to 11:30am.

The Musical Performance: Macky Auditorium, the Boulder Philharmonic will perform Ghosts of the Grasslands by composer Steven Heitzeg, a work that celebrates the life of the American prairie. More about the this performance & to purchase tickets go here.

Open Space and Mountain Parks [OSMP] invites you to join them to hike the Upper McClintock trail and visit areas Flatironsaffected by the flood. OSMP will provide contemplative time to absorb the changes on the land, as well as a brief overview of these events from the perspective of natural geologic change. This is an easy hike, about 2 miles round trip with 400 feet of elevation gain. Meet at the Chautauqua Ranger Cottage. No dogs please.

Celebrating its thirteenth year as the original outdoor ice skating rink in the community, WinterSkate presents the perfect opportunity to enjoy the winter season in a beautiful small-town setting.

If you want to go, it’s the time! The ice skating rink is only open through February 2014. More details can be found here.
