Boulder rocks! #Boulder has been named the named the No. 1 College Town in the nation by the American Institute for Economic Research. The ranking is based on nine criteria that measure cultural, demographic and economic qualities and we came in at the top!

Here is what the American Institute for Economic Research says about our town:

“Boulder takes the prize for top college town this year. The city boasts first place in demographics, quality of life, and economic conditions. The weather is perfect and the surrounding creeks, trails, and mountains attract those with a mad love of the outdoors. In fact, Boulder became the first U.S. city to tax itself specifically to preserve open space. The result? Great urban outdoor space for those who love the outdoors. In addition, it is one of the most accessible college towns in the country, with over 20 percent of commuters choosing public transportation or cycling up and down the Boulder Creek Corridor. The educated, relatively diverse, and fit populace enjoys a great bar and restaurant scene with the best fair-trade coffee and microbreweries in the Rockies. If this is not enough, Boulder also brags favorable labor markets and high innovation levels, in thanks partly to the University of Colorado’s flagship campus.”

Ready. Set. Go! It Is Winter Walk and Bike Week

Are you ready for the Eighth Annual Winter Walk and Bike Week? Organized by the City of Boulder, it features various week long fun activities for children and adults with rewards for participants who ride or walk. This year, the Winter Walk and Bike Week will start Monday, Jan. 23 and run through Sunday, Jan. 29.

The Winter Walk and Bike Week initiative supports a primary goal of Boulder’s Transportation Master Plan to reduce the number of single-occupancy vehicle trips to 20 percent of the total mode share. Additionally, the initiative is in line with the city’s Transportation Report on Progress goal of achieving a 16 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and continued reduction in mobile source emissions of air pollutants.
