Take a short hike and then listen to nature focused music on the grass at Chautauqua. This is a fun kid-friendly evening focused on children ages 2 – 8. Free event, but bring a blanket and a picnic. Tomorrow, July 9, 2014, is Public Safety Day in Lafayette. Kids can enjoy a fun filled day hanging out with the Lafayette Police and Fire Departments! Included are police and fire equipment, fire trucks, police cars, police motorcycles and demonstrations of this cool equipment. Free hotdogs, swimming and community booths. Bring bicycles and helmets if you would like your kid to have a free bike safety course from police officers. More details here.

Starting July 12, 2104, the Boulder Outdoor Cinema takes over a Downtown Boulder parking lot [behind the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art] each summer on Saturdays to show us some classic films. This is not your usual film festival. Bring a lawn chair, a picnic, even the kids [for some shows], and enjoy a fun evening watching a movie under the stars. They even throw in an opening band. The Boulder Teen Advisory Board presents a 10 film series – Teen Film Nexus – at the Boulder Public Library. This summer teens entering middle and high school can enjoy an evening out with friends. Operamania! is a lively performance of opera scenes that introduces children of all ages to the world of opera. This classic appeared for two seasons on PBS and is now brought to Boulder by the Boulder Opera. 2014 Family Meadow Music with Jeff & PaigeMeadow Music programs are our most popular (and very fun) education events. Children and parents join OSMP’s Jeff Kagan, Paige Doughty and Mark Wesson for evenings of children’s music and nature education. The evening consists of a short, kid-friendly hike on the McClintock Trail followed by 45 minutes of nature music for kids on the Chautauqua Green, by the Ranger Cottage. Best of kids ages 2-8. Meadow Music is free! Bring a picnic, bring a blanket, rain or shine. All Meadow Music events are held from 5:30 to 7pm. Follow this link for a map to the meeting place.

Boulder Opera Company presents – Operamania! This lively performance of opera scenes introduces children of all ages to the wild world of opera. Created by Douglas Kinney Frost, Operamania! appeared for two seasons on PBS, and has been performed over 10,000 times! Operamani is an exciting, hour long romp through the world of opera, introducing everything from voice types to recitative. You and your children will be transported through opera history, with scenes from La Cenerentola, Porgy and Bess, Regina, Carmen, The Magic Flute, and more! Whether you are five or one hundred and five, Operamania! can’t be missed!

Join Open Space and Mountain Parks Early Childhood Educator/Volunteer Naturalist, Debora Martin, for an easy hike. Ages 6 and up. No dogs please.
