Winter/Spring Boulder Public Library Cinema Program Is Upon Us!

CinemaI don’t know about you, but when the days get shorter and colder I start to think about heading to the movies. Just when I am getting antsy to see some great cinema the winter/spring 2013 season of the Boulder Public Library Cinema Program is upon us. This artsy film series runs from January 7th through April 15th on most Monday and Thursday evenings in the Canyon Theater.  The Boulder Public Library’s Cinema Programming fills a special niche in the community providing cogent and coherent thematic programming for Boulder’s intelligent and diverse community. Free admission. 6:30pm unless otherwise indicated. All movies are at the Main Library Canyon Theater at 1000 Canyon Blvd., Boulder.

Celebrate Winter: Story Time and Signs of Winter Children’s Hike


OSMP just-for-kidsStory time with the City of Boulder’s Open Space and Mountain Parks is back at the Chautauqua Ranger Cottage! Ring in the year with winter picture books. Children join in the fun with sound effects and the color of the week. Afterwards, if weather allows, you’ll take off for a kid-friendly hike. If it’s too cold to hike, we’ll explore the animals of the Ranger Cottage. Geared toward 3 to 6-year-olds. Wear warm clothes and bring water and a snack if you like. Free, 10:00 to 11:00am. Denver Children’s Museum Rings in the New Year

Ring in the New Year in style with the Children’s Museum of Denver on Dec 31, 2012. They have their own Times Square
with glitzy, glittery ball drops, rainbows of confetti, sparkly art projects and all kinds of energetic fun, families can enjoy New Year’s festivities all before bedtime.

The museum is open Noon Year’s Eve 9 am – 4 pm. The ball is dropping on the hour from 10 – 3.

Recycle That Christmas Tree!

Parting is such sweet sorrow. Christmas trees are in our homes for such a short time but can be a large part of holiday memories.  Do the city a favor and recycle/compost your tree so it can live on in mulch for someone’s garden.  Here’s the scoop of how to do it:

City of Boulder/Boulder County Dec. 23 – Jan. 31:

Holiday trees may be taken to the City of Boulder/Boulder County Yard Waste Drop-off special holiday tree collection located at Western Disposal at 5880 Butte Mill Rd. Open to all Boulder County residents and free of charge. The holiday tree recycling drop-off is open 24 hours. NOTE: FOR THOSE WITH CURBSIDE COMPOST SERVICE, Western Disposal will pick up and compost trees that are put by your compost bin at the curb on your compost pick-up day. If you don’t have composting service or if you put out your tree on the recycling or trash day, it will go to the landfill.

Available to Lafayette residents at the City Service Center – 1700 Avalon Avenue. Dates and times vary from Dec 26-Feb 1 so check the website before heading over.

Louisville:

Troop 575 is recycling trees in Superior /Louisville on Saturday, Jan 5.  Sign up here for curbside pickup!

 

Be sure to remove all tinsel, nails, ornaments, lights and the stand.
