“K2: Siren of the Himalayas” documents the adventure, peril, teamwork and serenity of a mountaineering group’s attempt to summit the world’s most challenging peak. Shot in Pakistan in the summer of 2009, the film follows world-class alpinists Fabrizio Zangrilli and Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner with veteran climbers Jake Meyer and Chris Szymiec in a breathtaking glimpse into the world of high altitude mountaineering.Director Dave Ohlson joins the group’s attempt to summit K2 on the 100-year anniversary of the Duke of Abruzzi’s 1909 expedition. The documentary examines the history and geography of the Karakoram mountains while contemplating the risks, rewards and personal nature of exploration in an age when there are few blank spots left on the map. Lead climber Fabrizio Zangrilli will lead a post-screening discussion.

Tommy blames the suffering in his life on his father. His dad taught him to embrace fear and doubt and turn them into inspiration. Given this attitude, Tommy has established some of the hardest sport routes in the country and free climbed 11 routes on El Cap. He believes the long, difficult journeys with little chance for success teach him the most. Tonight at Patagonia Boulder, Tommy chats about the life of a professional climber, lessons learned, and how social media has provided an outlet for inspiring others. More information here.
