Boulder Public Library’s Newest and Most Creative Addition: BLDG 61!

Build, Learn, Design, and Grow at the Boulder Library’s Makerspace!

BLDG 61 (pronounced “building sixty-one”) is an all-ages public workshop located in the 1961 portion of the Main Library and is dedicated to hands-on learning and cultivating valuable experiences in the community through making. This is a place you can go to learn how to laser cut metal, create 3D printed objects, design lamps, and much, much more. All workshops are free.

Each year the Boulder International Film Festival [BIFF] brings excellent films and events to our community that are appropriate and of interest to kids and teens. This year screen films, learn to create zombie makeup, and much more! This is a super cool opportunity for Boulder area youth ages 5+.

From documentaries to feature films, to shorts, BIFF brings it all to the annual film festival. It has been named one of the 25 coolest film festivals in the world and there is no doubt why. Free/Educational Tours of the Visitor’s Center at the National Center for Atmospheric Research [NCAR]

Boulder’s National Center for Atmospheric Research’s [NCAR] visitor center is open for guided and self-guided tours 363 days of the year. This iconic building sits atop a mesa overlooking Boulder. The site is beautiful and offers easy hiking options and the visitor’s center offers visitors interactive learning opportunities. NCAR is open for visitors on weekdays 8:00am to 4:00pm and on weekends 9:00am to 5:00pm. Guided tours are offered M/W/F 12:00 to 1:00pm, but if you would rather a self-guided tour you can take a cell phone MP3 tour anytime. Many activities are hands on. Kids and adults alike enjoy this site!

Hey Boulder – It’s Almost Winter Bike Week! Boulder residents are encouraged to participate in Winter Bike Week from Jan. 25 to Jan. 29. This week-long event is a partnership between The City of Boulder, Boulder County, the Boulder Valley School District and the University of Colorado. The event is coordinated by Community Cycles.

Riders may register as individuals or as part of a team at to track bike trips and earn recognition and prizes. Registered riders will also enjoy free breakfasts and snacks along their routes.

The fourth annual Student Banner Project has kicked off with 51 lamp pole banners created by the talents and imagination of student artists from Columbine Elementary School, Casey Middle School and Boulder High School. This year the unifying theme is “Farming.” The banners will be on display through mid-April 2016 along the Pearl Street Mall.
