Chautauqua Presents – Author Craig Childs: Apocalyptic Planet, A Journey to the Ends of the Earth

2014_Craig_Childs_220x200pxCraig Childs writes about the relationship between humans, animals, landscape, and time. His stories come from visceral, personal experience, whether in the company of illicit artifact dealers or in deep wilderness. He has published more than a dozen critically acclaimed books and is a commentator for National Public Radio’s “Morning Edition.” His work has appeared in The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Men’s Journal, Outside and Orion.

Tonight, Childs will take the audience on a journey to some of the world’s most extreme environmental landscapes: the driest deserts of Chile, the genetic wastelands of central Iowa and the vast Greenland Ice Sheet. Through science and adventure, he will reveal the ways in which our world is constantly moving toward its end and how we can change our place within the cycles and episodes that rule it.
