The Boulder Ballet’s Nutcracker Is A Boulder Classic! Are you going?

This Thanksgiving weekend, join the Boulder Ballet and Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra in their production of The Nutcracker. The grandness of Macky Auditorium on the University of Colorado campus is matched by the scale of this production featuring a cast of 80 dancers, live symphony orchestra, full scenery, beautiful costumes and special effects.

Classical choreography is infused with theatrical magic, circus arts and a rare sense of humor. The company dancers are joined by students of the Boulder Ballet School and Boulder Children’s Chorale, who provide a delightful attraction for young audience members. You won’t want to miss the adorable mice, toy soldiers, dreamy snow scene and wondrous trip to the Land of Sweets for Clara and her Nutcracker Prince.

Snow Is On The Way, Boulder! Know The Snow Removal Code.

City of Boulder Sidewalk Snow Removal Rules

It looks like snow is on the way! The City of Boulder’s sidewalk snow removal rules are important to know and follow. This is how they outline it on their website:

All owners or residents of private property must have the snow on their sidewalks cleared within 24 hours after it stops snowing. Shoveling sidewalks helps prevent accidents and increases accessibility for pedestrians.

If your sidewalk is adjacent to a primary snow route, please wait until the snow plows have cleared the streets before shoveling. Plows may need to push snow onto curbs and sidewalks to keep the streets clear.

Boulder’s Code Enforcement Officers can issue a summons to persons failing to comply with the snow removal ordinance. The fine for a first offense is $100. The maximum fine is $1,000 and 90 days in jail. To report sidewalk snow removal violations, please call Code Enforcement at 303-441-3333.

Violations can result in a municipal summons issued to the responsible party and/or an abatement. Abatement includes calling in a private snow removal contractor to clear the sidewalks. The property owner will be charged a $50 administrative fee along with the cost to remove the snow. Properties receiving an abatement warning have 24 hours from the time and date written on the top of the warning to remove the snow themselves.

Adult residents, property owners and agents are all responsible for sidewalk snow removal for a single-family dwelling, a duplex, a triplex or a four-plex. Property owners and their agents are responsible for sidewalk snow removal for other multi-family properties as well as commercial and industrial properties. Snow removed from sidewalks needs to be kept on the property. It is against city code to deposit snow (plow, shovel or coarse to deposit) upon any street sidewalk or alley.

First Fridays Art Walks Are Happening In Niwot!

Every first Friday of the month, Osmosis Art & Architecture hosts First Friday Art Walk in Niwot, Colorado in conjunction with the Niwot Cultural Arts Association. Niwot businesses stay open late and most offer refreshments. First Friday Art Walk in Niwot is from 5 to 8pm near Downtown Niwot.

The collection of art in various forms at Osmosis Art Gallery is truly something to behold. Owner Anne Postle and her team have gathered a finely curated selection of Colorado artists and their works, and each month brings a new show and new things surprisingly beautiful. You must drop by when visiting Niwot; you’ll be glad you did.

Visualize The New Boulder Civic Area – Take a walking tour on 10/27

The Civic Area Team would like to invite the community to learn more about the current plans for the Civic Area by participating in a site tour on October 27, 2015.  One of the project managers will be facilitating a tour starting at the east entrance of the Canyon Gallery at the North Library and continuing through the Civic Area for approximately 45 minutes.  There are two opportunities available.

What :   Visualize the new Civic Area Walking Tour

When :  October 27, 2015 at Noon and 4:30 p.m.

Where :  Meet outside the entrance to the North (Canyon Gallery) Entrance of the Main Boulder Public Library

Who :  Open to the public! The free, outdoor tours around the Civic Area will be led by Boulder Civic Area Co-Project Leader Jeff Haley.  All tours will remain on sidewalks and are handicap accessible.
