Boulder’s New Ordinance On Short-Term Rentals Are In Effect!

Boulder’s new rules on short-term rentals went into effect on Monday, January 4, 2016. Boulder’s short-term rental ordinance means homeowners renting to visitors for less than 30 days at a time need a short-term rental license. That means the hundreds of Boulder units listed on VRBO and Airbnb are in violation of the law. It’s not clear how Boulder will handle these violations.

 

What is a short-term rental? Short-term rentals are properties that are rented for less than 30 days at a time, excluding dwellings owned by the federal government, the state, or any of their agencies or political subdivisions and facilities licensed by the state as health care facilities; also excluding permanently affordable units. This iconic star watches over Boulder in the winter. Lit starting in November this can be a fun night hike! This moderate hike has two possible approaches. Each one is about 1.2 miles (one way) with roughly 900 feet of elevation gain. Cold temperatures and icy trails call for a little extra gear and preparation, but that’s just part of the fun.

Enjoy The Movie “Frozen” Under The Civic Area Lights!

See the movie Frozen Dec. 19

Snow Much Fun in the Civic Area continues this Saturday night, Dec. 19, with a free showing of Disney’s Frozen.  Don’t let the cold keep you a way.  Join friends at 5 p.m. for pre-movie caroling and a Frozen sing-a-long led by the Rocky Mountain Chorale. Bring your camping chair and blankets and we will bring the free hot chocolate.

In addition to the light display and movie activities on Saturday, Dec.19 from 5 to 8 p.m. Boulder Parks and Recreation will host additional FREE activities including:

  • Caricature artist
  • Photo bus
  • Hot cocoa
  • Train rides
  • Scavenger hunt

The City and County of Boulder Are Listening To YOU! Come share your thoughts at the upcoming “listening sessions”!

The City of Boulder and Boulder County have upcoming “listening sessions” to get feedback from the community about the Boulder Valley Comprehensive Plan as well as listen to what is on the mind of Boulder residents. The city and county are hosting six gatherings in November and December with more expected next year. These sessions will have a local focus tailored to each sub-community and are a chance for you to share ideas with staff members and ask questions about matters affecting your neighborhood and part of town.

The next session is focused on Southeast Boulder and happening in the evening on December 2, 2015 at Eisenhower Elementary School. Get more specifics on dates and times of listening sessions in your neighborhood here –

Boulder’s Leftover Turkey Trot – Fun 5K Run For The Family!

Leftover Turkey Trot 5K

It’s the 2nd Annual Leftover Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk on November 28, 2015 from 10 – 11am. We’ll “stuff” ourselves on Thanksgiving Day not to mention chow down on the leftovers in the days to come – Oh the bloat! Come out for a run!

Once again, it’ll be time to get off the couch, grab the kids (and the relatives that have invaded your home) and join us the Saturday after Thanksgiving for a family 5K Run/Walk at Roger’s Grove Park in Longmont, Colorado. This 3.1 mile, timed run is sure to get your Leftover Turkey legs moving and gear you up for the rest of the weekend. There will be food and awards after the race if you want to stick around for a bit.

With all the talk about getting outside I want to remind everyone of a great resource right here in the Boulder area – City of Boulder Parks and Open Space.

Get to know Boulder. Get to know Boulder better. I bet you will learn something new if you participate in the Natural Selections hikes/events. Natural Selections is the City of Boulder’s ongoing series of educational nature programs on topics including ecology, wildlife, local history, night hikes, children’s programs, plus many more. These programs happen year around and are free and open to the public.
