Boulder’s new rules on short-term rentals went into effect on Monday, January 4, 2016. Boulder’s short-term rental ordinance means homeowners renting to visitors for less than 30 days at a time need a short-term rental license. That means the hundreds of Boulder units listed on #VRBO and #Airbnb are in violation of the law. It’s not clear how Boulder will handle these violations.
What is a short-term rental? Short-term rentals are properties that are rented for less than 30 days at a time, excluding dwellings owned by the federal government, the state, or any of their agencies or political subdivisions and facilities licensed by the state as health care facilities; also excluding permanently affordable units.
