Lafayette Seeks Young Artists!

Wow – it’s time to think about Halloween already!  Lafayette Old Town Association (LOTA) and downtown merchants are hosting the 2nd Annual Halloween Window Painting Contest.

 Exterior business windows along Public Road and E Simpson Street will be turned into canvases for kids to paint Halloween, Día de los Muertos or fall scenes during the day on Oct. 13. (Rain date is Oct. 20.) Professional artists from pARTiculars will help with the project and provide judges for the paintings. Winning participants will receive certificates and awards.
• Open to students in Grades K-10
• Online registration ends Oct. 3
• Fee: $3 per child

Blue Moon Hike

To celebrate the second full moon this month (called a blue moon), join naturalist Dave Sutherland for a moonlit walk to explore the world of nocturnal animals. Find out why the dark is not as scary as it seems. Investigate your senses in the darkness: listen like a bat, smell like a moth, feel with your whiskers and learn to see by moonlight.

Art Night Out in Lafayette!

The City of Lafayette continues their 2012 Art Night Out series. Art Night Out runs from 4 to 9 pm on the third Friday of the month throughout the summer in Downtown Lafayette.  Each Night Out features artists, an art walk, children’s activities (including a balloon twister, magician and face painters), the Oskar Blues Bonewagon food truck and a beer garden.

Bands will play at Festival Plaza in Old Town Lafayatte from 7:30 to 9 pm.  Here’s the lineup:

Flea Market Season in Boulder

The Hill Flea Market ends their 2012 season on August 18th.

As they describe themselves, it is “One part vintage flea market, one part interactive workshop, the Flea will bring traditional vendors, artisans, and entrepreneurs together to offer their talents and treasures for sale while also imparting their skills or knowledge to the visiting public. Celebrating the principles of sustainability, vendors and visitors alike will be invited to reuse, renew, recycle and rediscover their goods, services, and skills.”

Saturday’s event runs from 10am to 4pm and takes place ON THE STREET at 13th & Pennsylvania in the Historic University Hill District, in Boulder.

North Boulder Park Classic

Can’t wait for the USA Pro Cycling event to arrive in Boulder on August 25? Here’s a place to get your competitive cycling fix: August 12, 2012 sees the North Boulder Park Classic once again.  With events for runners, cyclists and kids, it’s a fun and competition filled day. Events start at 8am with a fun run and goes throughout the day.

Free Day at Children’s Museum

It’s getting towards the end of summer. If you’re running out of activities for the kiddos, head on down to Denver Tuesday for free admission from 4-8pm at the Children’s Museum of Denver.  

They have something for all little ones, from bubbles to rockets to a puppet theater!

Festival Flicks Continue!

Wow – the outdoor movie scene in Boulder County is growing! Lafayette joins in with Festival Flicks Outdoor Cinema (sponsored by Eats and Sweets) in conjunction with LCAC and Project Yes!  Movies will be shown on a 2 story screen at Festival Plaza.
If you missed Kung Fu Panda in July, there’s still the Adventures of Tintin on August 4, 2012, 8:30pm.  Bring some popcorn and something comfy to sit on!
