Louisville

Louisville Downtown Street Faire

The Boulder area abounds with free concerts all summer. Louisville has another that we haven’t reported on yet: The Louisville Downtown Street Faire!   This fun family event takes place on Fridays from 5-10pm through August 17, 2012 in beautiful Downtown Louisville CO.  Bring a picnic or try some local food and cold drinks. There will be activities for the kiddos and local crafts to check out.

Here’s the 2012 lineup, along with descriptions from LDBA. Music starts at 6:30:

  • JULY 13 The New Riders of the Purple Sage

American. Originals. When the double-helix cosmic-highway San Francisco Sound merged with Country, these guys were THERE. Ladies and gentlemen, it’s the real pedal-steel deal: please give a big Street Faire welcome to David Nelson, Buddy Cage and the New Riders of the Purple Sage.

  • JULY 20 Marcia Ball

Back by popular demand, for her fourth consecutive year, please welcome, from N’awlins, the lady with the legs, the in*******credible piano player, and possibly the nicest person to ever grace the Steinbaugh stage—the great Marcia Ball. Her band is pretty good too.

  • JULY 27 The Smithereens

Another East Coast band? How you doin’? These FM radio hit makers, (“Blood and Roses”, “Only a Memory”, “A Girl Like You”) play music for the joy of it, and joy is highly contagious. In addition to their great originals, they do amazing covers of some decent bands, like the Beatles and the Who. This is going to be fun.

  • AUGUST 3 Tab Benoit

Were you at the Faire for Tab’s show last summer? If you were, you know. If not, do not miss this—we’re talking a power trio experience extraordinaire. The Faire seems to bring out the best in all our Louisiana musicians. Or maybe it’s the other way round.

  • AUGUST 10 Gregg Rolie Band

Join us for a very special evening with the Santana and Journey co-founder and his all-star band. This show will be all about the songs Gregg wrote and sang for the original Santana, including covering their masterwork, Abraxas.

  • AUGUST 17 Emmitt-Nershi Band

It’s a Newgrass kind of thing. Join Louisville native Drew Emmitt of Leftover Salmon and Bill Nershi of String Cheese Incident for an only-at-the-Faire night of jaw-dropping musicianship and good jam-band vibes, man.

Some breakfast stations will have mechanics on-site offering light tune-ups for breakfast station visitors. Work from home? No matter, just trade in a car trip for a bike trip and register anyway. It counts!

Walk & Bike Month & Bike to Work Day is not just about biking to work, because some people just can’t do that. It is about choosing the best way to get around each time you leave the house. If you have to go to Erie, maybe you can only drive, but if you live a half a mile from the gym, try biking there next time.

Given all the personal, environmental and global impacts of private automobile use, it is now, more important than ever that Boulder maintain and build on its strong commitment to walking and biking! It starts with every person committing to walk or bike at least one day in June and letting our city government know that being able to walk and bike safely and easily in Boulder is part of what makes our town great!
