Boulder Green Streets returns this Sunday, September 16, 2012 from 10am-4pm. This year there are 2 main centers for activity, the North Boulder Rec Center and the East End of Pearl St. and you can walk or ride your bike on a 3 mile car-free route between the two locations.

Lafayette Seeks Young Artists!
Wow – it’s time to think about Halloween already! Lafayette Old Town Association (LOTA) and downtown merchants are hosting the 2nd Annual Halloween Window Painting Contest.
Exterior business windows along Public Road and E Simpson Street will be turned into canvases for kids to paint Halloween, Día de los Muertos or fall scenes during the day on Oct. 13. (Rain date is Oct. 20.) Professional artists from pARTiculars will help with the project and provide judges for the paintings. Winning participants will receive certificates and awards.
• Open to students in Grades K-10
• Online registration ends Oct. 3
• Fee: $3 per child

Valmont Dog Park Reopens!
Grab that leash and take Fido out for a romp at the Valmont Dog Park today. It’s open again with great new features for dogs like new fencing, surfacing, landscaping and water hydrants. A portion of the new park includes an enclosed, irrigated turf area, low berms, a new 16-foot square shade shelter, and two smaller shelters.
The park is located at 5275 Valmont Road.

Apply for Solar Discounts
The City of Lafayette is working with Xcel Energy to reduce energy costs for both the city and up to 25 low-income Lafayette households. Applications will be accepted through Sept 30 on the City of Lafayette website.
The two solar gardens which will generate one megawatt of electricity. It’s ideal for those who don’t have the location or space for their own solar array!
Applicants can anticipate up to a 50% discount off existing monthly Xcel bills. This savings will continue as long as the recipient resides at the address, and can be transferred to a future address within the Xcel service area.

For something different this weekend, check out the Firefly Handmade Gypsy Market September 8 and 9, 2012 at the old Sutherland Lumber site at 3390 Valmont Road, Boulder, Colorado. Over 80 artisans will be there with their wares! There will be crafts for the little ones and food trucks for those in need of a snack.
